Do's, Don'ts & the Concept of Snowboarding

A theory session walking through all the do's and don'ts and the whole concept of basic snowboarding — covering stance, equipment and safe falling before you ever strap in.

Day 01

Heel & Toe Edge Control

Learn to engage your heel and toe edges to manage speed and come to a stop — the single most important skill on a snowboard. Everything else builds on it.

Day 02

The Falling Leaf Exercise

Slide diagonally across the slope on a single edge, controlling speed by engaging and releasing that edge. Your first real movement across real terrain — lateral, fluid and controlled.

Day 03

Heel & Toe Side J-Turns

Your first real turn: ride across the slope and sweep up into a J-shape on both heel and toe edges, learning to steer and initiate direction changes.

Day 04

Linking Heel & Toe Turns

Combine your heel and toe J-turns into one smooth, continuous transition — the moment snowboarding starts to feel like real riding. Focus on rhythm, flow and reading the slope.

Day 05

Garlands & Controlled Descents

Partial turns without completing the cross-fall-line transition, building edge awareness and confidence on longer runs — shaping turns with speed and precision.

Day 06

Gondola Phase-I & Side Slip

The ultimate day: riding down from Gondola Phase-I and mastering the side slip. Flatten the board's edges to slide down the fall line, re-engage to stop — and earn your beginner certification.

Snowboarding in Gulmarg above Gulmarg with the Gondola behind

Why Gulmarg

The best mountain in India to learn on

Gulmarg is a rare thing — a world-class big mountain with a beginner's heart. The Gondola is one of the highest cable cars on Earth, opening 1,300 vertical metres of terrain above wide, forgiving learning slopes minutes from your hotel.

Cold, dry Himalayan powder, uncrowded pistes and a season that runs mid-December to late March make it the ideal place to learn to ride — whether it's your first day on snow or your fiftieth.

A Day on the Mountain

How your day unfolds

Morning warm-up

Meet your coach, fit gear and warm up with drills on the learning slopes while the light is soft and the snow fresh.

Coached sessions & lunch

Two focused coaching blocks on technique, split by a hot mountain lunch and plenty of kahwa to recharge.

Afternoon & video review

Free board practice, then an evening video review so you can see your progress and set tomorrow's goal.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Over five nights and six days we take you from your first edge-control stance to riding down from the first phase of the Gondola — no prior experience required.

Professional snowboard coaching, all gear (board, boots, bindings & full safety kit), Phase 1 Gondola ticket, accommodation in your chosen tier, two major meals daily, GST and a beginner certification.

The first day or two are tougher on a board, but progression is fast — most riders link heel-and-toe turns by mid-week and ride the Gondola by day six.

A maximum of three, so every rider gets personal attention and supervision throughout.

Warm waterproof layers and thermals, wrist guards and knee pads (recommended for beginners), sunscreen and UV-rated sunglasses, and a valid photo ID. Travel insurance is strongly recommended.
